About myself

After studying biology with an emphasis is genetics and immunology, I finished my Ph.D. in 2011 at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany.

During my study time I came to the decision that I do not want to work in basic research, but rather in translational research. The goal of this interdisciplinary concept is to convert scientific findings into new clinical therapies to improve health. This is used from bench-to-bedside and vice versa.

After my Ph.D. work I was doing research as a Postdoc in the U.S., initially at the University of California, San Francisco in the field of early biomarkers for lung cancer and later at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis on early detection of ovarian carcinomas.

At the of 2016, I moved back to Germany and decided to become a naturopath and to open my own functional medicine practice. My knowledge as a biologist and researcher act synergistically with my naturopathic knowledge to do what I have always enjoyed doing: to help people. As a mother, I feel very strongly about the health and natural development of children - child health is one of the focus areas of my practice, which I opened July 2019 in Freiburg.

Another focus area is the treatment of Down Syndrome: as a mother of a daughter who has Down Syndrome, as well as a scientist, I have acquired professional knowledge over the last years, from the underlying genetics to changes in biochemistry and metabolism to functional medicine, which I came first familiar with in the U.S. My daughter was already treated prenatally with dietary supplements and her development has since been overseen by functional medicine, to enable her to live a long, healthy and happy life.

Further research areas in my practice are other complex genetic, biochemical and metabolic diseases, such as autism and ADHD. I also have a passion for the optimization of our microbiome, our intestinal flora as a whole, as well as the occuring changes within the microbiome in the conditions mentioned above.

I am looking forward to my new purpose to optimally support each of my patients individually!
